Embellished Jeans Beyond Form and Fit

In the 1970′s, the sharp and clean cut disco fashion is imported from Europe, promptly displacing the unkempt hippy look. It was a time of tight bellbottoms with refined pocket decorations. The 1980′s saw a comeback of the traditional cowboy image, metal studs and all.

It was in 1999, however, that Tom Ford presented his frayed, embroidered, low rise Gucci’s in the Paris catwalks, going for a mere $3,500! The term “luxe hippie” is coined, and denim would never be perceived the same way again. This induction set the stage for the jeans revolution that we are living today.

Like so many other objects, the simple egalitarian blue jeans has reached levels of ornamentation (and price) that were unimaginable just a decade ago. The quality and sophistication of the decoration that we have seen these last couple of seasons are amazing! Possibly too much for some tastes, and pocket books, but sometimes trends have to swing far in one direction in order to eventually find their proper place.

I don’t believe this is a fad. Embellished jeans, jackets and skirts are here to stay. It is the style of the ornaments that will vary and evolve, and their quality that will make them timeless. ( Source)

History of Denim Fashions – Not going anywhere

History of Denim Fashions – Denim the fashion that changes with Our taste

In the 1960’s and 1970’s they were embraced by the hippy movement, and the trend to personalize and embellish jeans began. The history of blue jeans gets linked to the downfall of communism! Behind the iron curtain, jeans became a symbol of “western decadence” and individuality and as such were highly sought. Hip-huggers, bell bottoms, baggies, and elephant ears were the craze. Pre-washed jeans were first marketed.

In the 1980’sthe history of blue jeans was transformed forever. Denim debuted as high fashion. The term “designer jeans” was coined. Sergio Valente, Jordache, Calvin Klein were amongst the first to create slimmer, tight, butt hugging jeans.

In the 1990’s, although denim was never completely out of style, it did fall “out of high fashion”. Denim was still hot, but the new generation turned to other fabrics as well as other styles (khakis, chinos, combat, carpenters and branded sportswear).

The new milenium: All borders are down. Denim is everywhere. Denim is back on designer’s catwalks, on accessories, home collections, designer jeans by the hundreds of labels. Price barriers have been broken. Washes and finishes, embellishments, destroyed and distressed jeans, ultra low rise jeans, … the palette available to designers offers limitless possibilities, and the market appears to never bottom out. What came first: designer jeans or celebrities?

What came first: designer jeans or celebrities?
Now, more than ever, celebrities are playing a role in defining pop culture, and by merely sharing our preference for the ordinary seem to make it chic, and yes, pricey.

Denim aficionados are usually first attracted by the brand or the look, often as seen on some mega-star.
Then, after what can be many frustrating hours trying on countless pairs, they end up falling in love with the fit of one specific label. Brand loyalty in the designer jeans market is ultimately earned by offering a great fit. We all swear by our “best fitting jeans” (with or without knowing that what is “best” for our body type may not work for anybody else).(source)

Hot Pants – Spring/Summer 2010 Clothes: Key Looks – Short Shorts

Show off those legs and Ass in a pair of sexy hot pants

See all our Eco friendly GREEN Hot pants – Great prices for Hot looks

If ever there was a time to hit the gym, it’s this Spring. Hemlines have crept up to shorter than short; in fact reaching the negative. Hot pants, boy shorts, and tap pants are all variations on this shorter-than-short style, which in many cases reveal more than just one’s legs. (source)

Once upon a time hot pants were considered more suited to a gymnasium than the streets. But then, in late 2007, the leotard came back into fashion. While it didn’t peak on the streets until 2009, and was often worn under skirts, shorts or long furs, in the case of Kate Moss, its prevalence guaranteed that hot pants would indeed be worn by forward thinking fashionisers.

And so there it was on the Spring 2010 catwalks. And again in the front row. Always on the confident personality. Always on a great figure.

Those two latter parts are key to this fashion trend. It is not for the faint of heart, nor those who aren’t confident about their figure. (source)

Hot Sexy Fashion this spring – Very Short Shorts and How to Style Them

Hot Pants Create One Hot Look

Hot pants are shorts that have a negative hemline, which means they basically look like whole-some underwear. Picture vintage pin up girls. In fact, high-waisted hot pants are totally in. Buy hot pants in a heavy print or bold pattern to turn the temperature way up. Style hot shorts with classic or vintage-inspired blouses and blazers / jackets for a “Yes, this is meant to be worn outside” kind of look.

Choosing the perfect pair of shoes for hot pants can be tricky. On one hand, a woman has to wear heels to help shape her legs and buttocks. On the other hand, make sure they’re not too high. There’s enough sex appeal going on in this outfit already. Opt for a modest heel, and preferably a sling-back for a more casual and vintage-y look. (source)

“Daisy Dukes” what are Daisy Dukes, Hot pants, short shorts?

Daisy Dukes are form-fitting denim short shorts first popularized by actress Catherine Bach in the late 1970s. Bach played the role of Daisy Duke, the beautiful cousin of lead characters Bo and Luke Duke in the television series Dukes of Hazzard. Daisy Duke routinely appeared in a pair of cut-off denim jeans fashioned into shorts, along with other tailored hot pants and short skirts. These skimpy costumes served primarily to show off Bach’s well-toned legs, which were rumored to be insured for at least one million US Dollars.
The use of short shorts, cut-off denim jeans and form-fitting skirts to project a provocative blend of farmer’s daughter naivete and sexuality had been popular for decades before the first appearance of Daisy Duke, but television series such as Dukes of Hazzard brought this style into the mainstream. Young women began to create their own Daisy Dukes by strategically cutting their jeans along the seat and just below the crotch. These jean shorts allowed young girls to display their legs and emphasize their natural curves without revealing too much of their hips and buttocks. The original denim Daisy Dukes, as modeled by Catherine Bach and others, still provided some cover for the wearer’s more intimate areas.

The Daisy Dukes fashion phenomenon has continued long after the last episode of the Dukes of Hazzard television series aired. Wearing skin-tight shorts with provocative high rise cuts remained a popular trend among younger women with the physical attributes necessary to pull off such a revealing and sexually charged look. Many of the dancers and extras in urban music videos of the late 1990s and early 2000s wore these shorts and skirts to accentuate their sexual appeal. Unlike bikini bottoms or lingerie, Daisy Dukes could be worn on the street or at a dance club without violating most dress codes.

Some critics of Daisy Dukes suggest that the look is far too sexualized for preteens and young teenagers to adopt. They are revealing by design, so they can be readily confused with the short shorts and other provocative clothing associated with prostitution. Traditional Daisy Dukes are generally cut to provide coverage of the wearer’s hips and buttocks, but some styles can reveal the wearer’s lower “cheek” area. Participants in organized Daisy Duke contests may also elect to make even more revealing modifications to their original shorts. Parents of impressionable teens and preteens may want to discuss their concerns before allowing these short shorts to be worn in public.

The Daisy Dukes phenomenon got a second boost in popularity when singer and actress actress Jessica Simpson portrayed Daisy Duke in a motion picture adaptation of the television series. Simpson spent several months in the gym doing intensive exercises in order to achieve the well-toned legs and hips required for the role. Some organizations now hold special “Daisy Dukes” car wash fundraisers, which feature young female members performing their work while wearing traditional denim cut-offs or short shorts (source)

Hot Pants are back or did they ever leave – Sexy is sexy

Hot pants are actually not pants, but are shorts. Hot pants are, in fact, characterized by being short. They are about as short as possible, and are sometimes known as short shorts. Hot pants are thought to have been inspired by the miniskirt. Having two separate holes for the legs, the hot pant could achieve even shorter lengths than the miniskirt, while still staying in place.

worn to disco clubs during these years. They are considered a disco fashion, but hot pants were not only worn while grooving under the mirrored disco ball — they were also a popular fashion item for everyday street clothes.

During the heyday of hot pants, the office place held mixed reviews. For example, while many companies forbade their employees to wear the shorts to work, others embraced the fashion. Southwest Airlines, for example, proudly incorporated hot pants into the company uniform. 1970’s television commercials and print ads for the airlines show stewardesses wearing hot pants, along with tall, heeled boots, which were a popular accompaniment for hot pants.

Hot pants were sometimes worn very tight to the hips, waist and bottom. It was common to see these super-tight hot pants on pin-up posters, often worn with a short top that showed the midriff. Hot pants were often worn with stockings or tights underneath, but many ladies were brave enough to wear the leg revealing shorts alone. Another common way to wear hot pants was with a long top that came down and covered the hips. These tops were so long, and hot pants were so short, that the hot pants might be almost completely hidden by the top. Tops could also be tucked into the hot pants, a slightly more body revealing style. Whether the top worn with hot pants was tucked in or worn over the shorts, it was very common to wear a low-slung wide belt, and tall boots that reached almost to the knee. (source)
