Is It Really New, Then Why Have I Seen It Before?

Every woman out there is looking for that fresh “NEW LOOK”, hopefully borne of the latest fashion trends. The one that will make them stand out from every other female out there, right?  Is it possible that the year 1999 to the year 2000 was the last original womens’ fashion year?   Within the last nine years the new style became bringing back the old style or the vintage fashions. This latest fashion trend at hand has remained. Whatever could go wrong with using women’s spring fashion styles from each decade in the past, and have we finally seen the end of the old?  Is it possible that nothing much really ever goes out of style?

When and Where Does Our Fashion Come From?

The latest fashion trend, which was using vintage fashions, was only able to remain in effect until this past year. The primary new spring fashions trends were taken from a good mixture of the 50′s, 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s, lastly and tragically so, also from the 90′s.  It was purely the result of the celebrity fashion specialists and the experts on fashions designs simply running out of vintage genre’s to spin off of and revamp. So what route will women’s fashions take now that vintage fashions have lost their steam? Or will they find yet another way to continue the mad dash throughout the decades?

Well, the models on the runway, as always, tell the tale of what is “up and coming” in the fashion world and this spring, the latest fashion trends seem to be a random mix up of the aforementioned decade dash.

• Spring colors have traditionally been a combination of the brighter, pastel colors. The current fashion colors statement is all about yellows, pinks, and blues. Yet, there seems to be a particular focus on yellow, ranging from the bright school-bus yellow, to a greenish-yellow hue of sorts. Of course, some styles can only be pulled off on the runway. So, it’s probably better to focus on the light pinks and blues; however if one must dabble with the bright yellow, stick to scarves, handbags or other various accessories.
• It’s time to go back to math class, because the geometric shapes and abstract prints have come into their own. It is possible for everyone to pull off this look; one should just be sure to pay attention to stature. For example: smaller people should stick to smaller geo-prints and those that are larger, to the shapes that are bolder.
• Perhaps to go along with current world events, ethnic shapes and tribal prints have become a popular choice among women’s spring fashion trends.
• Floral designs and girly prints have come a long way since childhood Easter Sundays, and have hit the runway with a definite “pretty in pink” splash.
• The fabulous one shoulder dress with flowing material, is the must have of the season, made popular by the First Lady, Michelle Obama. This makes sense, having been deemed the fashion icon of 2009.
• Pants play a big part in new spring fashion trends, ranging from the still popular “skinny pants” to wide-legged, crop pants and then of course, the everlasting peculiar jumpsuit.

Daisy Dukes are form-fitting denim short shorts first popularized by actress Catherine Bach in the late 1970s. Bach played the role of Daisy Duke, the beautiful cousin of lead characters Bo and Luke Duke in the television series Dukes of Hazzard. Daisy Duke routinely appeared in a pair of cut-off denim jeans fashioned into shorts, along with other tailored hot pants and short skirts. These skimpy costumes served primarily to show off Bach’s well-toned legs, which were rumored to be insured for at least one million US Dollars.
The use of short shorts, cut-off denim jeans and form-fitting skirts to project a provocative blend of farmer’s daughter naivete and sexuality had been popular for decades before the first appearance of Daisy Duke, but television series such as Dukes of Hazzard brought this style into the mainstream. Young women began to create their own Daisy Dukes by strategically cutting their jeans along the seat and just below the crotch. These jean shorts allowed young girls to display their legs and emphasize their natural curves without revealing too much of their hips and buttocks. The original denim Daisy Dukes, as modeled by Catherine Bach and others, still provided some cover for the wearer’s more intimate areas.

The Daisy Dukes fashion phenomenon has continued long after the last episode of the Dukes of Hazzard television series aired. Wearing skin-tight shorts with provocative high rise cuts remained a popular trend among younger women with the physical attributes necessary to pull off such a revealing and sexually charged look. Many of the dancers and extras in urban music videos of the late 1990s and early 2000s wore these shorts and skirts to accentuate their sexual appeal. Unlike bikini bottoms or lingerie, Daisy Dukes could be worn on the street or at a dance club without violating most dress codes.

Some critics of Daisy Dukes suggest that the look is far too sexualized for preteens and young teenagers to adopt. They are revealing by design, so they can be readily confused with the short shorts and other provocative clothing associated with prostitution. Traditional Daisy Dukes are generally cut to provide coverage of the wearer’s hips and buttocks, but some styles can reveal the wearer’s lower “cheek” area. Parents of impressionable teens and preteens may want to discuss their concerns before allowing these short shorts to be worn in public.

The Daisy Dukes phenomenon got a second boost in popularity when singer and actress actress Jessica Simpson portrayed Daisy Duke in a motion picture adaptation of the television series. Simpson spent several months in the gym doing intensive exercises in order to achieve the well-toned legs and hips required for the role. Some organizations now hold special “Daisy Dukes” car wash fundraisers, which feature young female members performing their work while wearing traditional denim cut-offs or short shorts (source)
